You know the common saying, “Sh*t happens”? Well, sh*t doesn’t avoid weddings. Actually, sometimes it seems sh*t seeks them out!
There will be at least one incident during your special day. And, no, I didn’t just jinx it. There will be one! Trust me…
Someone will get too drunk, someone will step on your dress, you might get into a fight with your maid of honor, or someone will say something to upset you. Whatever it is, something will happen.
This is the only advice I can give you…
Realize that something will go wrong, accept it and just go with it!
If nothing happens, you will end the day with a perfect wedding. But if something does happen, you are more mentally prepared to handle it and you will still end the day with a perfect wedding. There are many stories out there of the classic bridezilla who wants obvious perfection. That’s great, but sometimes life doesn’t work out that way. The only thing you can control is your reaction to it!
Once you accept this, you will have your perfect wedding!
If something does happen, you will be able to laugh it off and move on to the next part of your wedding day.
So, are you wondering what happened to me on my wedding day?
- We had two wedding crashers crash our reception.
- My sister/Matron of Honor stepped on my wedding dress after our first dance.
- My favorite – when I first stepped out into the aisle, my husband and I locked eyes, and when I was about to get emotional… MY VEIL FLEW OFF! My dad, my hero, caught it before it flew off the rooftop! With both parents looking at me, waiting for a bridezilla reaction, what did I do? I laughed it off, gave the veil to our wedding planners and continued walking toward my future.
I’m sure there are other things that happened during our wedding day, but my point is, none of it matters! The only thing that matters is the love you have for your fiancé and starting a wondering life together! (Plus, these moments make for funny stories later)
As a Marriage Officiant, I can also say the one thing that you don’t want to go wrong is your marriage license paperwork. I had to bail two couples out because their officiant either couldn’t sign (FYI – active Catholic priests cannot marry couples outside of the church) or they messed up the paperwork by crossing something off. These mistakes void the paperwork and thus your union. This is what I’m here for! Let the other wedding bloopers happen and I’ll be here to take care of your paperwork!
