Happy Loving Day!

Today, June 12, is known as “Loving Day”!

What does that mean?

From Wikipedia: Loving Day is an annual celebration held on June 12, the anniversary of the 1967 United States Supreme Court decision Loving v. Virginia which struck down all anti-miscegenation laws remaining in sixteen U.S. states.  The remaining sixteen states were predominately in the south and when the Supreme Court decided to end the prevention of marriages between persons solely on the basis of racial classifications, this progressed the United States forward.  We need to celebrate more moments of history similar to this.  This day is just a simple reminder for interracial couples across the nation that someone had to break down the barriers for love to unfurl.

In the midst of the Black Lives Matter movement, interracial couples everywhere are or should be celebrating Richard and Mildred Loving; myself and family included.  My immediate family consists of three interracial couples between my sister, my sister-in-law and myself, joining us together in beautiful cultural variety of different backgrounds, but with the same belief – LOVE.  Love will always win and love conquers all.

If you are an interracial couple fighting to be together, please think of Richard and Mildred and push forward.  Their last name alone signifies the prominent fight for all couples to have the right to love and be married!  When in doubt, choose “Loving”.  Our differences do not create a divide between us, but our hate and ignorance will.

Please be safe out there folks!  And always choose LOVE!
